Denise Baden will be joining us in the shop to sign copies of her debut novel set in Southampton - Habitat Man!
Inspired by a real-life green garden consultancy, this eco-themed rom-com artfully combines comedy, fiction and science to foster green solutions. Tim – the unlikely hero – is fifty, single and trapped in a job he despises. In a desperate quest to find love and meaning, Tim transforms himself into Habitat Man, an eco-friendly 21st century superhero who endeavours to rescue the planet through a combination of wildlife gardening, composting toilets, bird psychology and green funerals. However Tim’s struggle for a better future soon becomes threatened by secrets from his past. Tim’s crises mirror those faced by the planet, and his sharing-economy, costing-for-nature policies offer hope for us all.
Denise Baden is Professor of Sustainability at the University of Southampton. Her award-winning research centres on how to move beyond preaching to the converted and engage mainstream audiences in green solutions. Her research has established that stories that smuggle in green solutions in an otherwise mainstream story are an effective way to inspire those who wouldn’t usually engage with environmental issues. Denise is the architect of the successful Green Stories writing competitions. Habitat Man is her first novel.
Please register via Eventbrite if you wish to attend so we can manage numbers on the shop floor.
