Octavia Butler tells the future - Clare's recommended read

I read the Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler a couple of years ago when, looking back, the world seemed a slightly less crazy place. A prescient tale of American society at the extreme, the story of Lauren, daughter of a minister, who lives in a guarded secure settlement, while the rest of society goes feral on the outside.  

After conversations with a couple of customers about The Parable of the Talents, I decided it was time to read the second book in the story. With recent events in America, I can't help but wonder how Octavia Butler could see how things were panning out. We categorise the book as Science Fiction... I think we should have a new genre title of Telling the Future.
