Briefly Very Beautiful - new in climate fiction

Clare has recently read Briefly Very Beautiful by Roz Dineen, a book Shortlisted for the Climate Fiction Prize 2024. Those of you who know Clare will also know that she has a real passion for climate action and is involved in many groups in the city who are taking positive action, including Southampton Climate Action network, Transition Southampton and The Southampton Collective. Clare has this to say about the book;

'A hauntingly realistic future world of climate chaos, where wildfires, drought, internet and power outages are all part of daily life. The book tells the story of Cass and her children who escape the pollution and heat of the city to seek sanctuary with in-laws in the country. But the sanctuary is not what it seems...

The book has some delectable descriptions of how this future impacts us in small ways as well as some hard hitting descriptions of mass migration and border crossings as people flee north. A difficult but recommended read for climate activists.'

The book is available in the shop and online.
