Poets Square reviewed by Rose

You might recognise the name Poets Square from the Instagram and Tiktok accounts run by Courtney Gustafson, who accidentally inherited a colony of 30 feral cats. But this book isn't your usual opportunistic tie-in to a viral social media phenomenon. Instead, it's a refreshingly honest and deeply moving account of the harsh realities of cat rescue, and of one woman's journey from wanting be 'good' to learning how to make a difference. Through her encounters with feral cats, and the humans they live alongside, Gustafson explores themes of sexism, mental illness, poverty, exclusion and grief with empathy and nuance. While a memoir that confronts the brutal realities of human and animal struggles for survival might seem like a heavy proposition, Poets Square is anything but. It's a beautifully written book about the possibility of hope, community, and radical care. With added cats!"

Thank you to Rose from the Radical Reading Group that meets here (every second Tuesday at 7pm), that has done this review for us.
