Local School Reading Ambassadors visit the Shop

Local School Reading Ambassadors visit the Shop

We were absolutely delighted to have two visits from Reading Ambassadors from Sinclair Primary School and Bitterne Park Primary School.

Twelve children from each school were selected to spend the morning with us learning about how the shop runs. One team learnt about the bookbuying side of things, one about the layout and genres, and the other about the practical runnings of the shop.

The students then had a session on providing feedback on our children’s area and recommending the books they like. They wrote poems about what it would be like if there were no bookshops and we are hoping to put these up in our exhibition space and also select some to share online.

Below are links to the blogs written by both schools on their visits:

The school visits were arranged in conversation with Ellie Prince, who is lead practitioner for Early Literacy for six local schools. We have been talking about other ideas to enthuse and improve literacy in children and young adults, one of which is supporting the idea of a Literacy Festival next year.
