Hosting the first 'Southampton Primary Reading Alliance' meeting
Jack and Suzanne were delighted to host the inaugural ‘Southampton Primary Reading Alliance’ meeting this month. The Alliance’s mission is to get the city's children enthused and engaged with reading for pleasure, beyond what is already happening so well in local schools. Set up by Ellie Prince and Denise Williams from Bitterne Park Primary School, the sessions are open to all working in education to provide a chance to share ideas, the latest and greatest children's books and plan exciting initiatives and events for Southampton's children as a reading community.
Some of the ideas talked about were to set up pen-pal reading initiatives across schools, having a newsletter for children to contribute to, as well as supporting the development of the literacy festival next year.
We are keen to see how we can play a part in supporting the improvement of literacy in children and the love of reading.
