Top 10 Best Selling books of 2023
More exciting than the Booker Prize, we are excited to announce October Books Top 10 best selling books of 2023. Not surprisingly we have some local authors in our Top 10 with Ally Hayes and Wendy Stokes taking the Number One slot with a Walk Around the Common (available in store only) . In at Number Two is Lessons In Chemistry from Bonnie Garmus, a funny and thought provoking look at the life of a woman chemist in 1960s America. Look out for the mini-series of this one!
In the Number Three position we have Nazneen Ahmed Pathak’s City of Stolen Magic, a book our customers bought and donated to Mount Pleasant Junior School pupils through a Pay It Forward campaign. We and the school are really grateful for your support in bringing this wonderful tale to the pupils of the school
Number Four is Station Walks by our very own Clare Diaper, a popular book of walk routes from railway stations around Southampton and beyond (available in store). The Number Five and Seven slots are occupied by the two delightful shorter fiction titles by Claire Keegan, Small Things Like These and Foster. Both perfect Christmas gifts for even the most reluctant of readers
One of our event books comes in at Number Six, Theology for the End of the World by Marika Rose (please ask in store). Marika also hosts our Radical Reading Group and is a great supporter of the shop.
In Number Eight the first of Toshikazu’s Kawaguchi’s novels, Before the Coffee get Cold, which was published in 2019. We think we must have a few readers out there who have bought one of the more recent books in the series and have been hooked by the time travelling tales of the customers of a 100 year old Tokyo coffee shop.
Number 9 in our list is Pulitzer Prize for fiction title, Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Described as a novel that ‘breaks and mends your heart’, this epic tale of love and loss is perfect for the avid reader.
And at Number 10 in our bestsellers, a non-fiction title, The Devil You Know: Encounters in Forensic Psychiatry. A perspective-shattering work into the minds of violent criminals that reveals profound consequences for human nature and society at large.
