The Freedom Bookshop, which had already been printing and selling anarchist material since 1886, and had lost a substantial number of volunteers and employees during the two world wars, as well as several premises during sustained periods of blitzing, was relaunched in the capacity we know it in today, in 1944. A mainstay of Radical and Anarchist publishing and bookselling, The Freedom Bookshop has managed to remain at the forefront of Radical politics even into the 21st century, and was even petrol bombed by pro-fascist right-wingers as recently as 2014.
