Join us in celebrating the publication of The Wonder Girls Resist - the 2nd in J.M. Carr’s Wonder Girls series about a girl gang resisting ‘The Blackshirts’ in 1930s Britain.

The Wonder Girls Resist is inspired by the 1937 Basque Children’s Camp in Southampton. The Celebration will include Basque style refreshments, music, readings, video, craft and a short talk from Carmen Kilner from The Basque Children of 37 Organisation, whose mum was one of the teachers accompanying the 4000 child refugees. As well as the book we’ll be celebrating 85 years since the arrival of the children and Southampton for being a city of welcome!

Writing as J.M. Carr, Jan’s inner child is about 11 so she loves a really good adventure with lots of action and characters that leap off the page. She wholeheartedly agrees with C.S. Lewis in that “A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest.” She hasn’t always been a writer or a reader even she struggled with reading at school. But she has always loved a good story and eventually, in her forties, she discovered she had the imagination to try writing one. Jan lives in Southampton with her technical support, plus a collie called Cindy, a goldfish called Melbourne and anyone who needs a place to stay at the time.
