We are in the Top 10 Favourite Ethical bookshops

Many thanks to October Books member Angela Cotton, who spotted an article in The Ethical Consumer magazine all about ethical bookshops. The article is from September 2023 and The Ethical Consumer customers were asked to identify their favourite ethical bookshops and we appear in a Top 10 list. Our Human Chain story from 2018, when we asked our community to help us to move books from our old premises to our new one on Portswood High Street, even gets a mention.

The article is full of really interesting information. If you are ever challenged by someone saying that paper copy books are more harmful to the planet compared to an e-reader, then you can let them know that you’d have to get through 36 paperbacks before you equal the embodied emissions of the e-reader. The article also provides a great listing of the best places to buy secondhand books, with Biblio coming top of the ethical list. We have been using Biblio to sell some of our old stock and donated books for a number of years, so it is really good to know that they are the best all round in this regard.
