October Books have joined the breastfeeding welcome scheme.
Breastfeeding is beneficial for mums, babies and the environment. However many mothers (or lactating parents, we know their are non-binary and trans men who chestfeed too,) feel too embarrassed or uncomfortable to breastfeed in public. This can be one of the main barriers to breastfeeding.
Though the law protects the right to breastfeed in public, nervous mum’s can often avoid going out, especially when they have newborns who need to feed very frequently. This can mean that new mum’s can be at increased risk of isolation and depression. The scheme aims to let people know there are places where they will be safe and welcome to feed.
By becoming part of the scheme October Books have agreed to train all our staff and volunteers in how to make breastfeeding parents feel welcome.
We know breastfeeding is hard work, so take a seat and let us know if you need a glass of water. Our staff will be happy to help.
