Our Night With The Bookshop Band
What an amazing evening we had with Beth and Ben from The Bookshop Band. They set up in the shop with the aid of their two adorable children, who were whisked away before the show opened by their travelling babysitter.
They opened with a song comprised of the first lines of books, which turned into a bit of a quiz. The audience were rewarded in their identification of the books from which the first lines came by hearing that they scored higher than most other bookshops. We knew you were a special lot!
Ben and Beth then took us on a journey of many other books, books that they had both read and sometimes had very different perspectives on. Two that stood out for me were Deep time which was inspired by Underland by Rob McFarlane and We Are The Foxes inspired by Glow by Ned Beauman, a jaunty ditty imagining the life of city foxes.
The evening closed with an audience participation in Smog over London inspired by Burton and Swinburne in the Strange Affair of Spring Healed Jack, by Mark Hodder.
