Join Johnny Carrington via ZOOM to hear fascinating and moving stories of ordinary people for whom the Spitfire has left an extraordinary legacy.
Using the testimonies of people who witnessed and were inspired by this iconic machine, Johnny Carrington has dramatised the story of Spitfire designer R.J Mitchell and his wife Flo, as told through the eyes of their son, Gordon. But the Spitfire was more than just a machine, it inspired a nation... across all walks of life. To illustrate this ubiquitous appeal, Johnny interviewed a range of people whose lives were touched by this iconic plane; including a lady who witnessed one of the first flights, Battle of Britain aces and a woman whose best friend was killed in the bombings of the Supermarine factory. Donations will be made to the RAF Benevolent Fund and Cancer Research from every copy of the play sold
Aviation and drama have always been a part of Johnny Carrington's life; he’s a lifelong member of the Maskers Theatre Company, he’s been a drama teacher for twenty years and a Head of Department for the last ten, and has held a private pilot's licence for many years. Whilst studying history at Southampton University, Johnny received a commission in RAF Reserves and taught gliding to cadets. This is his third published play. His first (with Danny Sturrock), 'Bang Out Of Order' (about anti-social behaviour) won many awards and was taken and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It is a widely used text in secondary schools. Johnny is married to Sophie and they have three children, Anna, Mia and Will. They also have a bonkers dog called Gizmo.
