Join Jackie Martin in the shop to stop and connect with activities inspired by her illustrated book.

A morning of therapeutic hands-on workshop activities inspired by Jackie Martin’s illustrated book ‘Found In Translation’. Illustrations from the book will be displayed in our exhibition space during August

As a lover of words, each day during lockdown in 2020 Jackie found words from languages and cultures across the globe that described beautiful, universal feelings which she felt were incredibly pertinent to the time - when connection felt most needed. This turned into ‘Found in Translation’

Here at OB there will be 2 – 3 different facilitated activities to give practical experience of what the book offers. For ages 5-100! This event aims to be fun, inclusive, relaxed, and accessible to everyone.

Jackie Martin has been a maker and an artist since she can remember. Now an illustrator, she was raised in a household that embraced creativity, and has always used this as a way of making sense of the world. She has trained as an Art Teacher and is currently on her way to training as a Therapeutic Children’s Counsellor. Her day job is currently teaching emotional literacy in a primary school. She is also a trained grief support volunteer. As such, she is passionate about the space where creativity and mental health messages meet. Her illustrations convey messages of hope and humour. She uses her illustrations as a creative tool for connection.

Although Jackie has always been an artist, she began as an illustrator in March of 2020, and throughout the first lockdown of that year a project called ‘The Lockdown Letters’ was created. As a lover of words, each day she found words from languages and cultures across the globe that described beautiful, universal feelings which she felt were incredibly pertinent to the time. And all at a time when connection felt most needed. From the ‘The Lockdown Letters’ ‘Found in Translation’ was born. ‘Found in Translation’ is now being printed by a local printer thanks to a successful Crowdfunder. It already has a community

.
