Imagine an alternative election campaign…

That’s exactly what happens in Manda Scott’s most recent book, Any Human Power, which was released just after the election was announced. I have been a follower of Manda’s work since I came across the Boudicca series, which provided me with a deep insight into the ways of our ancestors. This thread is woven into the new book, which see’s grandmother Alanna passing into the Land Between, with a promise to her grandson that she will be there for him if he should ever need. Many years later Lan’s wisdom is needed more than ever to help create a new democracy.

The book is about an election campaign like no other, where the Change Makers are a recognised and real challenge to the current system. Their story is one that we can imagine happening in today’s broken society and lays bare the deceits that abound in our current system. The manifesto for the Change Makers includes the ideas in many of the books we sell at October Books, from Doughnut Economics and participatory democracy to Future Guardians and Citizens assemblies. The book also weaves online worlds, magic and mystery with the present day and allows the reader to imagine realms beyond our narrow perception of our living world.
