Join Grant Sharkey via ZOOM for a unique opportunity to Ask Him Anything about his book Excellent Choice: Essays On Trying To Be Good In A Horrible World!
Even without the pandemic, it was pretty clear that 2020 was going to be a year where the mental fortitude of our species was going to be tested to breaking point. A political lurch to the populist right in the UK, social tensions being whipped up and a US presidential election – it was going to be a year that divided more than it united. To counter this barrage of lies, misinformation and conspiracy, Grant Sharkey wrote 5 essays to retain his perspective on reality and ensure he was as useful as possible to the people around him.
In his unique, entertaining and unabashed voice, Grant sets out why he’s actively (and hilariously) anti-racist, anti-fascist and anti-patriarchy; he explores how our decisions are instinctively made out of fear, optimism or coercion and how he overrides these impulses to ensure he’s not letting his personal anxieties guide him towards making anything but the best choices possible in everyday life.
Grant Sharkey is a double bass playing troubadour from Southampton, UK. In 2013 he embarked on a mission to write, record and release an album every 6 months for 20 years. Since starting he’s developed an uncompromising live show with a repertoire ready for any circumstance and audience. Over 16 albums to date Grant has written countless satirical earworms such as The Brexit Song, I’m Sorry To Hear You’re A Racist, The Power of F*ck and If I Were Vladimir Putin. He’s performed at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Bestival festivals; given a TEDx Talk and was awarded four stars by Three Weeks for his debut Edinburgh Fringe show, Trollbadour in 2018. He’s supported Mike Watt, The Wurzels, The Lounge Kittens, Electric 6, Dodgy, Andrew O’Neill, MC DEVVO, Nizlopi, Beans on Toast, Skindred, Band of Skulls and K*nt and the Gang.
This event gives the audience a unique opportunity to ask Grant anything about the book. And if you're lucky he might do a song too.
Register via Eventbrite for instructions to join ZOOM event. This is a free entry event, but if you'd like to sling October Books a donation, please do.
