DID YOU KNOW?

In 1790, Daniel Eaton published several volumes of Radical, anti-establishment materials, including Salmagundy for the Swine, otherwise known as Hog Wash. His shop had the images of a cock and a pig over the sign, and he was arrested many times, along with his contemporaries Richard Lee, and Thomas Spence, who also used pig imagery to satirise the Establishment. Whilst other anti-establishment organisations predate Daniel Eaton’s work, it is here that we begin to see the development of the Radical Bookshop as we know it today.
