The Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (phew!) will be running from the 30th November to the 12th December and we are ever hopeful that this conference, COP28, will result in significant action on a global scale.
We won’t be holding our breath though so we thought you might like a few more book recommendations that bring hope in these uncertain times. All titles available online or to order via the shop.
Active Hope by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone - The subtitle of this non-fiction book says it all ‘How to Face the Mess We're in with Unexpected Resilience and Creative Power’ .
The Stranding by Kate Sawyer - a first novel and absolutely captivating, a story about the hope that can remain even when the world is changed beyond recognition.
The Future We Choose by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett Carnac - the book that Matt Haig says everyone should read, find out why there’s hope and how we can each make a difference.
A huge thank you to friends and customers for these recommendations (Mandi, Liz, Doris and others). If you have any titles you would like to share do let us know at clare@octoberbooks.org
We’d also like to let you know that Southampton Climate Activist Groups are doing their bit to raise awareness of climate issues in the city and there will be activities and a Community Assembly in town on Saturday 9th December.
