October Books features in Robin Ince's latest book

Do you ever feel like you have a book-buying problem? Well, comedian Robin Ince's passion for books might just outshine yours. Imagine this: incapable of leaving a bookshop with just one volume, Ince's collection rivals a small library. Despite donating 6,000 books to charity, his shelves still overflow. But his love for books isn't just about accumulation

In 2021, when a pandemic-induced hiatus disrupted his plans for a grand tour with Professor Brian Cox, Ince embarked on a whimsical journey across the UK. Instead of dwelling on cancellations, he opted for adventure. Over two months, he visited over a hundred bookshops, spanning from the quaint streets of Wigtown to the picturesque coastline of Penzance.

Along the way Robin visited Southampton and, of course, he wasn’t able to resist the October Books pull. We were described as operating with ‘military precision’, and despite rumours of our radical politics, he was surprised to discover “a very jovial atmosphere”. “I seem to be surrounded by people delighting in new finds and by strangers striking up conversations.” It’s very good to know that we are on the national map, Robin. Be sure to come into the shop and buy the book, where you can read about everything that happened to Robin the night he came to October Books… and also hear about other great bookshops, nearby and further afield.

"Bibliomaniac" isn't just a travelogue; it's a hilarious romp through Ince's lifelong love affair with books. With wit and charm, he recounts his encounters with eccentric bookshop owners and fellow bibliophiles. His journey isn't just about promoting his latest book, "The Importance of Being Interested" (also available in shop); it's about exploring the heart and soul of Britain's literary landscape.

The above books are both available in the shop and for home delivery via Bookshop.org.
