Part Time Financial manager wanted
7 hours per week £9.90/hour with a 3 month probation period (National Living Wage)

Ever fancied helping to run a bookshop? October Books is Southampton’s independent, radical, community bookshop and we also run a community space, events program and host many other community activities. The team are looking for a new staff member with experience in book-keeping, finance and accounting, as well as a passion and interest in social change. We are looking for a long-term commitment from someone who will help this much-loved Southampton business continue to grow and flourish.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Quickbooks updates and management
Liaise with accountants as and when required
Provide mentoring and management of our book-keeper
Reconcile end of month accounts in discussion with other team members
Provide monthly and quarterly reports as requested by operations team and October Books Committee
Provide reporting for grant expenditure Manage our community shares in the appropriate software
Communicate and organise your own key priorities based on internal requirements
Creatively visualise insights and analysis using charts, diagrams and tables
Deliver presentations internally and externally with worker team and committee
Essential expertise and experience for this role (please note that NOT all criteria are required of one candidate if the role is split between two part time positions):
Has an understanding of book-keeping, accounting and financial planning
CIMA part qualified or qualified
Strong knowledge of Excel essential. VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, and Pivot Tables are advantageous
Experience in financial analysis is essential
Understanding of different business model structures
Self-starter with an ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Strong verbal communication skills
Attention to detail
Experience with technology and innovation
Works well in a team but can also take the initiative and manage themselves
Can plan ahead and think creatively should unexpected issues arise
Is reliable and committed to the future of October books
Willing to give volunteer time on occasion to maintain the smooth running of the business
Desirable expertise and experience for this role is:
A role in an organisation at the forefront of social change
IT systems and related hardware and software
Your work pattern is flexible and there may be some weeks when additional hours are required and others when you won’t work the full 7 hours, depending on priorities in the business.
