The joy of reading is one that can be shared in many ways.
From visiting your local bookshop and leaving with a stack of stories under your arm, to sharing reviews with your friends after reading the same book or reading aloud to each other stories that you love.
My favourites to read aloud are -
The Orange by Wendy Cope and a very different but equally brilliant Calypso By David Sedaris .
They were my two favourite books of last year and I have read out sections and poems from each of them to my friends and family. I loved them because they are funny and heartfelt meditations on life, whether it be a hilarious anecdote from one of the best essayists around or a poem that rolls off the tongue like The Orange. Stories are meant to be shared and some are made to be read aloud, so go and find your favourites and tell the world all about them.
