ReadEasy Launches in Southampton
October Books was represented at the ReadEasy launch on 24 Jan at the Mayor’s Parlour, Civic Centre. Readeasy aims to provide the best possible experience for adults who want to improve on their reading. October Books is keen to support the organisation and has offered space at the back of the shop for coaches and learners to meet in a safe and comfortable setting.
At Read Easy Southampton they offer free, confidential one to one coaching in a comfortable, safe environment without any timescale pressures. The coaches are fully trained and they use the Turning Pages phonics-based scheme that is tried and tested throughout the UK. They would welcome any adult who feels they would like help learning to read, regardless of their circumstances. They would also encourage anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer coach to
get in touch.
The timing of the launch coincides with a documentary about Jay Blades, from the Repair Cafe fame, setting out to improve his reading using ReadEasy as part of it, this being shown BBC1 on 26th January at 9.00.
