Please register via Eventbrite if you wish to attend so we know how many people to expect.
We are celebrating Southampton’s rich history in our Community Space all morning on Saturday 2nd July!
Don’t miss booksignings and one-on-one chats with local authors and historians, local artists and creators. You can learn about, and perhaps take home a little piece of our wonderful city!
As Southampton’s long-standing radical and independent bookshop, we’ve been a staple on the high street for over 40 years, and you’ll have the opportunity to learn a little bit about our own history too!
Martin Brisland will be here with his new book Celebrating Southampton
This book is celebration of Southampton’s rich heritage and identity – its special events, achievements, people, industry and landmarks.
Martin Brisland is a local historian and tour guide based in Southampton. Who has written many local books for Amberley Publishing, including Secret Southampton, A-Z of Southampton and Celebrating Southampton.
Ally Hayes will be here with copies of A Walk Up The Avenue (OB’s best seller of 2021!)
A Walk up the Avenue is mainly a history book of an area that is well known to all Sotonians but has rarely been written about. The maps also enable it to be used as a guidebook.
Ally Hayes and Wendy Stokes are both retired teachers who have, for the last few years, devoted their energies to research into the central Bevois Mount area of the city. They give talks and organise guided walks as well as write about the history of the area.
Lindsi Bluemel will be showcasing her popular greetings cards which feature local landmarks
Lizzie Jones will be celebrating our green spaces with Marlhill Copse prints and cards
Don John will be on hand to answer questions about his books chronicling Southampton's Black history
Tony Kushner will be here to answer questions about our city's Migrant Past and Present
