In store now! The Netanyahus, by Joshua Cohen
In the Winter of 1958, Jewish historian Ruben Blum (based on literary critic Harold Bloom) has been co-opted into playing host to a prospective new member of staff at the midwestern college where he teaches. However, when the exiled Isreali scholar Benzion Netanyahu (father of incumbent president of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu) with his wife and three children in a busted up rental car, Blum’s carefully constructed American identity begins to unravel.
Poised somewhere between Phillip Roth and Hannah Arendt, Joshua Cohen’s The Netanyahus is - aside from being the funniest American novel written in years - a carefully crafted, expertly controlled examination of Jewish identity in Post-WWII America. With sidesplitting set pieces that would feel right at home on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Netanyahus is a joy from start to finish!

The Netanyahus by Johsua Cohen
Paperback £12.99
Corbin College, not-quite-upstate New York, winter 1959-1960: Ruben Blum, a Jewish historian-but not an historian of the Jews-is co-opted onto a hiring committee to review the application of an exiled Israeli scholar specializing in the Spanish Inquisition. When Benzion Netanyahu shows up for an interview, family unexpectedly in tow, Blum plays the reluctant host, to guests who proceed to lay waste to his American complacencies. Mixing fiction with non-fiction, the campus novel with the lecture, The Netanyahus is a wildly inventive, genre-bending comedy of blending, identity, and politics-"An Account of A Minor and Ultimately Even Negligible Episode in the History of a Very Famous Family" that finds Joshua Cohen at the height of his powers.

We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.
We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.
