In Store Now! Elizabeth Finch, by Julian Barnes
We are thrilled to announce that we have a very limited number of signed, limited, indie bookshop exclusive copies of Booker Prize winner Julain Barnes’ long awaited new novel, Elizabeth Finch!
Written with Barnes’ trademark prose style, which is at once concise and expansive, humourous and emotional, Elizabeth Finch centres around a culture and civilisation teacher, and the relationships that develop and spin out over the decades between Finch herself, and her adult students. As ever with Barnes, the story is deceptively simple; aside from the vividly drawn portraits of it’s characters, Elizabeth Finch is also about the Britain of the present, how we choose to reckon with history, whether or not we can stand against its immeasurable weight, and perhaps most importantly: should we even try?
Another spellbinding novel from one of the great masters of English prose.

Elizabeth Finch by Julian Barnes
Hardback (Signed) £16.99
We'd like to introduce you to Elizabeth Finch. We invite you to take her course in Culture and Civilisation. She will change the way you see the world.
'The task of the present is to correct our understanding of the past. And that task becomes the more urgent when the past cannot be corrected.'Elizabeth Finch was a teacher, a thinker, an inspiration - always rigorous, always thoughtful. With measured empathy, she guided her students to develop meaningful ideas and to discover their centres of seriousness.
As Neil, a former student, unpacks Elizabeth's notebooks, and remembers her uniquely inquisitive mind, her passion for reason resonates through the years. Her ideas unlock the philosophies of the past, and explore key events that show us how to make sense of our lives today. And underpinning them all is the story of J - Julian the Apostate, her historical soulmate and fellow challenger to the institutional and monotheistic thinking that has always threatened to divide us.
This is more than a novel. It's a loving tribute to philosophy, a careful evaluation of history, an invitation to think for ourselves. It's a moment to reflect and to gently explore our own theories and assumptions.
It is truly a balm for our times. -- This book has been printed with two different colour designs, blue and yellow. We are unable to accept requests for a specific cover.

We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.
We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.
