How books improve wellbeing!
How books improve wellbeing
Did you know October Books is part of the University of Southampton’s Health and Wellbeing Community hub? We joined in 2018 not long after we moved to our new premises. We worked with the team at the hub to put on a couple of Human Library evenings in the shop and community space. For various reasons the Human Library project didn’t continue but Clare has maintained the connection with the hub through the pandemic, encouraging reading and getting lost in a book as vital for our health and wellbeing.
Recently hub member Tony Curran asked Clare if she would like to take part in a video about her connection to the hub to provide an idea for improving health and wellbeing. Not surprisingly Clare suggested reading a book as a way to boost wellbeing, along with some more creative ways you could share your book reading experience. Have a watch of the video here and let us know what you think of Clare’s suggestions info@octoberbooks.org.
Clare’s video is the 6th in a series of videos and if you are interested in watching other hub members talk about their involvement you can see them here
If you would like to share the details of a book that has inspired you then do come along to our Bring Your Own Book Club, next event on Tuesday 23rd November Online at 7pm
We are open:
Monday - Saturday
10am - 5.30 pm
We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.
We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.
