Saturday visit from Hastings Rental Health Housing co-op
We had an unexpected visitor this Saturday, in the form of a house! Sarah from Hastings Rental Health Co-op is walking the UK raising awareness and funds to make affordable healthy secure long term community led housing in Hastings a new normal. Sarah was introduced to us by Lizzie Jones from Southampton’s own housing co-op, Hamwic Housing Co-operative. She has walked from Hastings to Southampton, via Brighton and is talking to other housing cooperatives and like minded groups along the way. Initial funds raised will go towards writing a business plan
Clare chatted to Sarah about her journey which will take her to all corners of the UK and swapped stories about what has worked for us here at October Books and learnt about some great initiatives in other parts of the country (loving the public living room idea from Camerados, more here). We wish Sarah happy walking and fundraising and would like to think that sometime in the future we might be able to support initiatives like this to thrive in our city.
