As part of Flipped Eye's 20th anniversary digital book tour, join Leila Segal and Martin Egblewogbe in conversation via ZOOM

Flipped Eye is one of the most respected small presses in the UK. Their writers are Latinx, Queer, White, Intersex, degree holders, graduates from the school of life, Black, Gay, old, young, Asian, Straight… and at Flipped Eye are able to express themselves with freedom, and create affirming and challenging work. Their authors provide a unique and important perspective, using language that bridges both the mainstream and the margins, drawing the reader’s attention away from the status quo of the mainstream to allow important marginalised voices to be heard.

Leila Segal - born in London, of Polish, Lithuanian and Romanian descent - will speak about ‘Breathe: Stories from Cuba’. ‘Breathe’ originated in the time she lived in Cuba, and explores the heart of the Fidel Castro-era. Fizzing with life, it balances the truths that lie between the island’s propaganda and the Western media’s portrayal. Leila is also the founder of Voice of Freedom, a charity that works with survivors of human trafficking, enabling them to tell their story.

Martin Egblewogbe - born and living in Accra, Ghana - will speak about ‘The Waiting’. ‘The Waiting’ is his Kafka-esque collection rooted in metropolitan Ghana and the human mind. It is an allegorical exploration of the loneliness of an existence based on an alien world-view. Juxtaposing his training as a physicist against his curiosity about local myth, in his writing Martin creates a universe that is both entertaining and erudite.
