Here at October Books we strive to be as accessible as possible. We have no background music which we know can be an issue for some with audio processing or sensitivity issues. Our shop is accessed by one step, with a ramp being available on request. Inside the whole shop is all on one level with our toilet being accessible. Zoom automated audio captioning is available for all our online events and our events are all currently pay as you feel as well, so as not to price out anyone who is on benefits or a low income.

Though we strive to be as accessible as possible, we know we can always do better. If you would like to be part of a team of volunteers that not only highlights issues of accessibility but also works to resolve them please do email us. We are always happy to understand and learn what more we can be doing to improve both our store and people’s lives.

We have a disability and neuro-diversity section which we frequently add to and improve and would always love to take suggestions for from those in the community about new titles to showcase and stock. We also have lots of children’s titles highlighting disability, difference and diversity.

Quick reads titles, which are short accessible books with interesting and diverse content for adults, perfect for those who struggle with reading, have lower levels of literacy or for those who are learning English.

We can also get hold of audio books for customers and large print books of certain titles on request.

We are open:

Monday - Saturday

10am - 5.30pm

We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.

We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.

You will see we have a QR code at the door, if you have the NHS COVID-19 app downloaded to your smart phone please scan this as you enter the shop.
