Bread and Roses shortlist (sorry we missed it in June!)
Not new news, but we missed the announcement in June of the Bread and Roses shortlist for 2024. The Bread and Roses award is presented by the Alliance of Radical Booksellers, of which we are a member. The award celebrates radical, accessible, politically-left non-fiction which offers new perspectives and insight and the shortlist was announced back in mid June.
Friends of Israel by Hil Aked is on the list and we were lucky enough to have Hil in the shop back in November 2023. A really inciteful and engaging evening for all who attended. Other titles in the shortlist are:
Divided: Racism, Medicine and Why We Need to Decolonise Healthcare by Annabel Sowemimo (Wellcome Collection)
Empire of Normality : Neurodiversity and Capitalism by Robert Chapman (Pluto)
I Feel No Peace: Rohingya Fleeing Over Seas & Rivers by Kaamil Ahmed (Hurst)
Shattered Nation: Inequality and the Geography of A Failing State by Danny Dorling (Verso)
Woman Life Freedom: Voices and Art from the Women’s Protests in Iran edited by Malu Halasa (Saqi)
Look out for the announcement of the winner in September 2024
