Art exhibition: Quantum Mechaninks by Dave Hubble
Wednesday 20th November - Tuesday 14th January
Art exhibition - free entry
Originally trained as an ecologist, Dave has an interest in the Anthropocene, looking at humans' impact on the world, our use of resources and so on. He works in a variety of media, but is strongly focused on reusing waste materials and discarded items.
In Quantum Mechaninks, he took unwanted objects, mainly mechanisms or components, with little or no inherent worth and used them as the subjects of a series of ink drawings, thereby giving them value again. The drawings were executed freehand – no rulers, compasses or preliminary sketches, just ink straight onto paper. This means that each piece had to be produced without error, just as the mechanisms that inspire them would hopefully have been.
Dave has exhibited widely and is also Curator at The Art House and The Old Bond Store, both in Southampton. He has a studio in The Arches and is also a professional poet.
This exhibition is a selection of a larger version shown as part of British Art Show 8 Fringe.
