An Update on Events at October Books!
We are delighted to have received some funding from a charity called Necessity which will allow us to be more inventive and creative in our use of the community space. The funding will help us co-create and co-curate events with the local community, as well as being able to work with partners to respond to the cost of living crisis.
Taking the seeds of ideas from conversations with customers and members, as well as reflecting the range of books that we sell, we will be focussing on the themes of ‘Alternative Futures’ and ‘Wilding’. The Alternative Futures theme will stretch the bounds of the imagination as we look at rethinking our economy, political system and our life together in our local communities. For Wilding we will be looking at how we can help rewild ourselves to connect more with our own true nature and the natural world.
We are so pleased to be partnering with Saint Mary’s Church in the city centre and Communicare to put on a Meeting Place, Wednesday afternoons 2.30 to 4.30 (during term time) until 10th May. This is an opportunity for people to meet up across the generations, do some crafts/board games together with afternoon tea included too. After that we hope that Meeting Place can start up again early in the autumn.
